Ripple President Speech Teased In Korea Blockchain Week

On October 3, 2026, Seoul will be crowned the crypto capital of the day: prominent crypto industry figures will gather together in the annual crypto event, this time in South Korea.

What’s Happening In Seoul This Weekend

The first keynote speech, titled “Special Announcement: What’s Coming Next for the XRP Ecosystem in Asia”, features Ripple ecosystem growth manager Tatsuya Kohrogi and XRP Asia President Sabrina Tachdjian.

A keynote speech also includes Ripple’s President Monica Long speaking on institutional finance. This may reveal Ripple’s next step in the region, as XRP’s popularity in South Korea has been undeniable. In May, South Korean crypto exchanges managed to surpass the global ones in terms of XRP transactions.

The “special announcement” label may be not enough for a drastic upswing following the event. Coverage of the event has highlighted tokenization and XRPL developments, but a partnership or use case that requires XRP would be the ultimate catalyst.

Ripple’s tech stack presence in South Korea has also been noticeable. Via Kyobo’s Life Insurance partnership, Ripple aims to move traditional T+2 bond settlement toward near real-time on-chain settlement.

There are also South Korean banking names appearing in Ripple’s Korea programming, including internet-first banks like Kakao Bank & KBank. Woori Bank, the largest South Korean banking entity, is also exploring Ripple’s XRP-based rails.

Exposure to the South Korean market is particularly important beyond cross-border payment rails. Retail investors love trading XRP as a part of their swing trading strategy, since Futures trading is completely banned in the region.

On the other hand, Ripple’s presence in South Korea is currently limited to banks, insurers, and licensed local partners, not through a direct (Virtual Asset Service Provider) VASP license of their own.
