Interactive Brokers Expands AI Integration Beyond Certified Platforms

Interactive Brokers announced broader support for artificial intelligence tools through the Model Context Protocol, or MCP. The expansion allows clients to connect accounts using many compatible applications beyond earlier certified marketplaces. Previously, access focused on ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok through approved connector marketplaces.

The latest release adds compatibility with Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity, Windsurf, and other MCP-supported applications. As a result, clients can connect accounts through tools they already use for research and portfolio analysis. The company stated that MCP has become a common standard for connecting AI applications with external services.

Interactive Brokers built its AI Integration on the MCP standard from its launch. The broker now extends that capability to nearly every compatible application supporting the protocol. The move follows the company’s long-standing strategy of offering open APIs for third-party connections.

AI Features Expand Portfolio Analysis and Trading Workflows

The updated AI Integration allows connected applications to review portfolios and perform investment research using natural language requests. Clients can also monitor portfolio risk and prepare trade instructions before submitting orders. However, the system still requires users to review every instruction before converting it into an executable order.

The platform supports portfolio stress testing under different market conditions and interest rate scenarios. It also evaluates currency exposure, implied volatility, and historical price ranges across portfolio holdings. Additionally, the integration identifies sensitive positions and prepares possible trading actions based on client requests.

Interactive Brokers stated that clients decide what information connected applications can access. The company also uses a secure authentication process before granting permission for a single account. Clients using compatible applications can connect through custom connector settings by entering the Interactive Brokers MCP connector URL.

Existing AI Tools Continue Growing Across IBKR Platforms

The expanded integration complements Interactive Brokers’ existing artificial intelligence features across its trading platforms. These tools already operate through Client Portal, IBKR Desktop, IBKR Mobile, IBKR GlobalTrader and Trader Workstation. The company also confirmed that support for Google’s Gemini platform will arrive in a future update.

Interactive Brokers currently offers AI Screeners that return stock matches from natural language descriptions. Other features include Investment Themes, Connections, Ask IBKR, and AI News Summaries for personalized market updates. Together, these services help clients organize market information, analyze holdings, and discover related investment opportunities.

Founded as an automated global brokerage, Interactive Brokers has consistently expanded digital trading tools through open technology standards. The latest MCP expansion continues that approach by allowing broader AI connectivity without limiting clients to selected marketplaces. The announcement also reflects growing adoption of standardized AI protocols across financial technology services.
