Art Blocks Marfa Weekend 2026: Schedule & RSVP Guide

Art Blocks Marfa Weekend 2026 runs October 22–25 in Marfa, Texas — the sixth year of the gathering that has become generative art’s annual home base. It is free to attend with an RSVP, the full run of show is already out, and much of the weekend is built around things you can see, make, and talk about in person. Here is what has been officially announced, what stands out on the schedule for creators and collectors, and how to follow along if West Texas isn’t on your calendar.

Why Marfa became generative art’s annual gathering

The choice of town is not random. On its official Marfa Weekend page, Art Blocks traces the event back to founder Erick Calderon (Snowfro) encountering Donald Judd’s 100 untitled works in mill aluminum — work that wasn’t written in JavaScript but carried two ideas central to on-chain generative art: permanence and variability. The Art Blocks house in Marfa is framed as a tribute to that lineage, and to the pioneers who treated computers as an artistic medium.

“It’s a community of artists, collectors, brands, and participants in the art world coming together in the desert to have a dialogue about art. It’s pretty special,” Calderon says on the event page.

The setting does real work, too. Art Blocks describes a town of about 1,600 residents that strips away distraction and turns attention toward the community gathered there. Its own figures put the weekend at 800+ artists, collectors, and industry people from more than 20 countries, with about 57% returning year after year. For a scene that lives mostly in browsers and wallets, that is a rare thing: a recurring, physical room where the generative canon gets discussed face to face.

    What’s on the 2026 schedule

The official schedule of events is dense, so here are the threads most worth knowing. All times are local and come from the published run of show; check the Art Blocks app for any changes.

Thursday, October 22: check-in and opening night

    • 3–8 PM, Art Blocks Gallery: Community check-in and backyard welcome, plus EMULATION: Selections from the Art Blocks 500, curated by The Museum of Art + Light.
    • 5–9 PM, glitch Gallery: glitch x LACMA present LIFT (together) – Part II: FAILURE MODE, in collaboration with LACMA Digital Leaders and Fountain — a locals hour first, then a community night. Space is first come, first served.
    • 8–9 PM, Crowley Theater: A screening of the documentary Emergence in Marfa, with a panel featuring director Logan Woodyard and artists Anna Carreras, James Merrill, and Jeff Davis.
    • 9 PM–12 AM, one fourteen: The Marfa Weekend opening party, co-hosted by OpenSea and Art Blocks.

Friday, October 23: institutions, the Artist Fair, and museum shows

    • 10–11 AM, Crowley Theater: The Next Hundred Years: How Art Institutions Are Adapting To A Changing Landscape, with Deliasofia Zacarias (LACMA), Erin Dragotto (MoA+L), Phil Mohun (NODE), and Philippe Bettinelli (Centre Pompidou), moderated by Jeff Davis (Art Blocks). It covers programming, acquisition, and conservation — the plumbing behind museums collecting digital work.
    • 11 AM–3 PM, Saint George Hall: Artist Fair, Day 1. Activations include Outland debuting its first print issue, ABX by Art Blocks, Vinnie Hager’s Letters From Marfa (send any of the 1,000 Letters as a postcard), a GAMERS session and RASTER book signing with itsgalo, and Travis LeRoy Southworth’s There Will Be Signs, developed during his 2026 Art Blocks × OpenSea Marfa Artist Residency.
    • 11 AM–7 PM, Art Blocks Gallery: Synthetic Topographies, curated by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, bringing together artists from the Mneme Foundation Collection and Art Blocks.
    • Afternoon and evening: MoDDA’s Proof of Culture selections, jiwa’s Lagrange Bend (co-hosted by OpenSea), MACBETH’s laser installation VEIL, and glitch’s Believers dinner with mpkoz — twelve seats, so arrive early.

Saturday, October 24: Judd at sunrise and the ABX conversation

    • 8–10 AM, The Chinati Foundation: A sunrise viewing of Donald Judd’s 15 untitled works in concrete, presented by Chinati and Art Blocks — the clearest line between the weekend and the art history it claims.
    • 10–11 AM, Crowley Theater: An ABX panel on Art Blocks’ new on-chain publishing stack: where artists draw the line on what AI touches, and what it means to publish work that outlives its platform. With Ryley (Art Blocks), dadabots, and Han Saglam (hanrgb), moderated by Erick Calderon.
    • 11 AM–3 PM, Saint George Hall: Artist Fair, Day 2 — Eric Pan’s piano that paints, jiwa’s live generative portraits, Outland’s Taste Workshop, Manuel Lariño’s trading card workshop, and The Generative Art Museum’s Responsive Dreams, presenting eight generative algorithms released in 2026.
    • 11 AM–7 PM, Art Blocks Gallery: Quietus Machine, curated by NEORT++ — an autonomous computational device in a transparent acrylic cube.
    • Evening: The backyard cookout (5–7:30 PM), then a closing party at the Palace Theatre hosted by collector Adam Weitsman, billed as free and open to all, with the first unveiling of an ACK masterwork.

    Sunday, October 25: farewell

The weekend winds down with the Marfa Walking Club and a farewell breakfast in the Art Blocks backyard.

What it means for creators and collectors

Read the program as a map of where generative art is heading. Three threads stand out:

    • Institutions are in the room. LACMA curates a gallery show and co-presents a glitch night; MoA+L curates EMULATION; LACMA, NODE, MoA+L, and the Centre Pompidou share a stage on how institutions last another hundred years. For collectors, that is context on how museums think about acquisition and conservation of on-chain work.
    • Publishing infrastructure is the artist story. ABX appears at both Artist Fair days and anchors a Saturday panel. If you make work on-chain, it is the session to watch for how Art Blocks wants artists to publish next — including the AI questions many artists are already wrestling with.
    • The physical layer keeps growing. Pen plotters, block printing, linocuts, postcards, trading cards, prints, and sculpture fill the Artist Fair. Generative art in Marfa is as much about objects and participation as screens.

That mirrors a broader shift we tracked in Art Basel’s Zero 10 digital art section: digital art increasingly arrives through curated rooms and institutional partners rather than mint pages alone. For more gatherings like this one, browse our NFT events coverage and the wider NFT art section.

Should you go? A practical checklist

    • RSVP individually. Every attendee needs their own registration on Luma.
    • Book lodging now. Art Blocks warns that Marfa is a small town and accommodations fill fast; it recommends booking your trip alongside your RSVP.
    • Download the Art Blocks app. Use it to build an agenda and navigate between venues, which are spread around town.
    • Prioritize capacity-limited events. glitch’s LIFT nights and the Believers dinner are first come, first served.
    • Plan for early mornings. The Chinati sunrise viewing starts at 8 AM Saturday.

How to follow Marfa Weekend remotely

    • Collect the poster. The open edition commemorative poster is available to anyone, and each purchase helps keep the weekend free. Start at artblocks.io/marfa.
    • Keep the schedule handy. The schedule PDF and the Art Blocks app list every talk, screening, and exhibition, so you can follow artists and panels as they happen.
    • Watch the official channels. Follow Art Blocks’ own accounts and the #marfa channel in the Art Blocks Discord for updates.
    • Follow the artists and curators. The schedule names the artists, curators, and institutions behind each event, which makes it an easy list of people and projects to follow during the weekend.

What to watch as the weekend gets closer

    • Updates to the run of show in the Art Blocks app, especially for capacity-limited events.
    • Artist Fair details still being filled in, such as Feral File’s activation, which the schedule says will be announced soon.
    • What emerges from the ABX conversation about how artists publish and preserve on-chain work.
    • The ACK unveiling at Saturday’s closing party.
